The FTP site containing downloads to the Wonderware installers is a little difficult to find, but it is publicly available. You can download the full InTouch HMI, Industrial Application Server, and other related packages here: ftp://ftp.west.wonderware.com/Wonderware/ Alternatively, you can download files from their PACWest website, although these downloads require a login and password. Either way, you can [...]

Whether we allow ourselves to be shaped by events and history, or whether we act to shape them. Whether chance of birth or circumstance decides life’s big winners and [...]

I do not fear failure. I only fear the “slowing up” of the engine inside of me which is pounding, saying, “Keep going, someone must be on top, why not you?” General George S. Patton

As most of you are aware by now, today is my last day at Arch Chemicals. Looking back on the three years that I’ve been here, I sometimes surprise myself with what I’ve been able to accomplish. Some nice comments from co-workers for posterity: I was very sorry to hear of your resignation. [...]

Looking at some of the sample projects at the Georgia Tech Research Institute has reminded me of how exciting research can be. There are a lot of things I miss about academia, in particular, working with a group of really bright, motivated individuals. This looks like a dream job, but having been away from Georgia [...]

Looking at some of the sample projects at the Georgia Tech Research Institute has reminded me of how exciting research can be. There are a lot of things I miss about academia, in particular, working with a group of really bright, motivated individuals. In industry, it seems like it’s all about collecting pay checks. The real [...]

When I first started at Arch Chemicals, a mysterious anonymous individual made the following comment in my hiring post: Beware. Arch Chemicals? management will sell their grandmothers to raise the stock a few pennies. Do not plan on a career with this company. You will leave or be asked to leave within a few [...]

I’ve had so much frustration with Windows Vista that I’ve finally decided that it isn’t worth it anymore. My next PC is going to be a Mac. Update: An alternative may be to get OS X running on a standard PC.

A lot of interesting panels were completely full today, which made for a somewhat disappointing experience. Still, we did the best we could: Attended an EFF panel on “Telecommuting: Ins & Outs”. I was actually able to contribute my thoughts in this discussion because I telecommute once or twice a week. One of the recommendations was [...]

This is our fifth year of DragonCon, and Adam and I began the event by watching the annual parade. Registration was once again a breeze due to registering online well in advance. This year brought with it some interesting panels, including an entirely new Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) track. In “Meet the Stars of Harry Potter”, [...]

I canceled my Vonage line, not because of quality of service issues, but simply because I’m trying to curtail my spending. I had some hesitation about this because of the numerous horror stories I’ve read about the cancellation process. My experience, fortunately, was not like that: The phone number to cancel Vonage is 1-866-243-4357. I called [...]
